A MOTHER who was diagnosed with breast cancer is raising thousands of pounds for a charity to help others in a similar position.

Nikki Cox, of Home Farm Way in Ilminster, had a routine mammogram when she turned 50 and after tests was told she had breast cancer.

After an operation and more tests Nikki, now 52, has made a full recovery and urges other woman her age not to put off the checkup.

She said: “It was a shock but it was one of those things you just have to deal with.

“I didn’t notice any lumps or anything unusual, so if it wasn’t for the mammogram they wouldn’t have spotted the cancer so early.”

Nikki has already raised £2,500 as she and an army of friends took on the Race for Life, and a further £2,000 for Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

She said: “The people of Ilminster have been so supportive of me and the charity.“ Raising this money is me being grateful for the treatment I have received because I am lucky enough to be clear without having to undergo chemotherapy.”

Her next fundraising event is a ladies pamper and craft stall day at Monks Yard, near Ilminster.

The event is on Saturday from 1-5pm and includes two 20-minute treatments by professional therapists, a glass of bucks fizz and chocolates for £17.

People who do not want a treatment can still join in on the day and coffee, cake and craft stalls will be on offer.

All proceeds are in aid of Breast Cancer Care and raffle donations would be gratefully received.

Nikki can be contacted on 07808-811617 or 07762- 898077.
