A GLOBETROTTER has celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her family at Frethey Nursing Home in Bishop’s Hull.
Molly Merrifield, born 102 days before the outbreak of the First World War, still enjoys ‘happy days and good health’, says her son, Mike.
Molly, who grew up in Cheltenham, where she attended Cheltenham Ladies College, met her Cornish husband of 50 years in Fowey.
They moved to London in 1936, where they experienced many close shaves during the Blitz and had two children, Jill and Mike.
Molly, who lived in Trull and then Comeytrowe for nearly 30 years, was very active until moving to Frethey – she used to swim every week, played bridge and worshipped at St Mary Magdalene Church in Taunton.
Mike said: “She loved travelling, attending my wedding in Jamaica when air travel was a novelty and more recently visiting her great grandchildren in New Zealand. She also visited many European countries with Jill.”
She also has four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
