THE streets of Burnham will soon be filled with the delicious aromas of some of the finest food and drink in the South-West.

It could only mean the return of the town's popular Food and Drink Festival on May 24 - bringing with it Great Burnham Bake Off, Brew Off and this year's Chilli Cook-Off.

And now YouTube chef sensation Barry Lewis, from Weston, has been confirmed as one of the many top food aficionados dishing out treats and tips on the day.

Festival director Beverley Milner Simonds told the Weekly News: “He filmed himself from starting out when he couldn't cook at all and now he is releasing his first book.

“We're hoping it will encourage more people to have a go at cooking things for themselves and really getting involved.”

This year also sees the South West heats of The UK Chilli Cook-Off, with chilli samples being sold on the day to fundraise for Highbridge Foodbank and Coastguards Association.

Three venues will be crammed full of store holders - the Baptist Hall, Methodist Church and Princess Theatre. This year visitors can grab a free BOS Festival stick of rock, from the Sweet Shack, as they enter.

Ms Milner Simonds added: “We've had some fantastic feedback, people have never seen town centre so busy. We had a 400% increase in footfall since we started, which is fantastic.

“One of the things that makes the festival so special is the free demonstrations. There are things like bread-making, sugar craft demos and cooking techniques. Hopefully visitors will learn something new.”

More than 80 store holders have been booked in, including a host of BBQ stores this year and vegetarian and gluten free offerings.

Roads will be closed from 7am. For more information visit www.burnhamonseafoodfestival.org.uk.
