Awards for 1st Watchet Sea Scout group leaders

THREE leaders from the 1st Watchet Sea Scout group were presented with awards from the Scout Association at a county presentation day for their work within the scouting organisation.

The nominations are made locally but then presided over at a national level and are announced prior to St George’s Day each year.

Group Scout leader Malcolm Bale who has completed over 40 years service as a warranted leader, received the Silver Acorn in recognition of especially distinguished service.

Assistant Scout Leader Karen Smyth, who has 17 years of service, received the Medal of Merit.

It implies keen, conscientious, imaginative and dedicated service over a sustained period.

Explorer Scout Leader Jeremy Szabo received a Chief Scouts Commendation, an award for good service given in recognition of the contribution made to the Association by the individual concerned.

UK chief commissioner for Scouts, Wayne Bulpitt said: “These awards give us a great sense of pride as we recognise those who have gone that extra mile with their exceptional service or acts of immense bravery in overcoming adversity.

“We take this opportunity each year to say a very big and heartfelt congratulations and thank you.”
