Traders bid to boost business in Wiveliscombe
TRADE bosses in Wiveliscombe are trying to show off the best of what the town has to offer in a bid to boost business.
Firms and leaders of the 10 Parishes Business Group are hoping to put the town on the map as they try to lure in some of the thousands of visitors to the area this summer.
But it’s not just tourists they are trying to entice – an event this week is aimed at getting shoppers buying on their doorstep.
Stalls from town businesses will set up at Kingsmead School on Saturday (April 26) from 10am to 5pm to highlight Wiveliscombe’s best assets.
Patrick Boyle, chairman of 10PBG, said “This is a great opportunity to discover new and quality products and services right on your doorstep.
“Buying locally benefits local people and businesses alike, and strengthens our community.”
Products and services on show will include interior jewellery designers, online marketing experts, therapists, engineers, architects, solicitors, a sawmill, an illustrator, tradespeople, retailers and more.
Entry is free, but there will be an antiques valuation session for a small charge to cover the costs of the day.
Matt Day, showcase coordinator, said: “The idea is to mainly try to show what’s available locally because there’s a real lack of understanding of what’s around here.
“There are about 400 businesses in our patch and this is a way of making people aware of what’s on offer.
“Stands are selling well, and we expect it to be a busy day with a good turnout from the business and wider community.
“We expect 50-plus businesses with stands in the sports hall, with many more firms attending and at least 300 potential customers.”
