THOUSANDS of people are expected to attend a top attraction in the Taunton calendar which had been under threat of being cancelled.

The family fun day in and around High Street is going ahead on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26, after a local organisation stepped in to save it.

Organisers have already booked up a host of entertainments, attractions and workshops.

TIME for UK Ltd - (Taunton Independent Markets and Events) – stepped in to take on the fun day after previous organisers Taunton Town Centre Company (TTCC) folded.

TIME’s Lucinda Ackland said: “The day is free and there’s plenty of fun things for all the family.

“We are appealing for any attractions and entertainments who were booked by TTCC to appear to get in touch so they can also be there on the day.”

The not-for-profit company is also staging Super Market Sundays on the last Sunday of each month in High Street – following the first successful one on Mother’s Day, traders from across the South-West will be out in force again this weekend.

Mrs Ackland said: “Lots of shops said they had their best ever Sunday when we ran the first Super Market and we’re looking forward to this weekend’s event.

“Traders are very supportive and we are redirecting people from the market to the shops.

“We’re giving away free goody bags with information about events and programmes in Taunton.”

Anyone interested in volunteering for either initiative should e-mail marketsofcountytowntaunton@outlook.com Mrs Ackland added: “Everyone is trying to assist to attract people to Taunton. We want people’s support and energy – we’re looking for clever and creative volunteers.”
