“TERRIFIC” with much more to come... that’s how the team behind Taunton’s Brewhouse Theatre’s re-opening summed up its first week.

Scouts and guides breathed new life into the venue last week with the bright, non-stop song and dance of Taunton’s 25th Gang Show being the first production on the programme.

“We had a really good week,” said Val Hammond, founder-member of the Taunton Theatre Association and chair of the board of directors.

“The performers were on top form, extremely enthusiastic, and so many people came through the doors saying how glad they were to be back in the Brewhouse.

“It was moving to see so many appreciative people and a good buzz.”

Thanks to the “absolutely brilliant” team of volunteers coming together to get everything ship-shape before opening, the week was glitch-free, even despite the run on ice cream.

Val said: “I thought I’d ordered enough for a fortnight, but after two nights I had to make a complete re-order!”

The Young Musical Theatre Company took to the stage last night (Wednesday) for their run of Disney smash High School Musical until Saturday, and beyond that the programme is constantly changing.

Val said: “As fast as we produce a flyer other things come in to add to it, so we’re going to have to keep updating it.

“All in all it’s going well.”
