THE people of Moorland say they are “stunned by the kindness” of the children from Kingsmoor Primary School who have turned their flood-hit village into a scene of spring colour.

The children decided they wanted to do their bit to help the area which was devastated by the flooding and brighten the church and village before Easter.

Several wooden and stone planters were filled with flowers planted by the children and included flags placed inside with messages from everyone at the school.

The planters were delivered to the church in Moorland thanks to the people at Bridgwater Van and Car Hire.

Church-goers are now greeted by the bright flowers, and a few of the heavier stone planters have been placed around the village to spread the colour.

The Rev Jane Haslam, vicar of Moorland, said: “They are absolutely beautiful. The people were stunned by the kindness of the children.”

The children also held a scootathon at the school which raised £2,000 for flood relief.

After Easter, the children at the school said they would like people from Moorland and Fordgate to take the flowers into their homes.

The Rev Haslam said: “Lots of people have told me when the children are back from their Easter holidays, they would love to go and thank the children personally and tell them how grateful they are.

“It was just absolutely wonderful when they were all around. People were really moved by it. We would like to thank the school and the children for their gift and all their efforts.”
