A MAN charged with causing the death of another man and seriously injuring two others following a crash on the Ilminster bypass last year has appeared in court.

Michael Sydney Berry, 29, of Holly Crescent, Sacriston, Durham, appeared at Yeovil Magistrates’ charged with causing the death of Paul Jewkes on the A303 Ilminster bypass at Boxstone Hill on September 26.

Mr Berry is alleged to have been driving a VW crafter van dangerously and to have caused serious injury to Michael Jewkes and Patricia Jewkes by driving dangerously in the same incident.

Mr Berry did not enter a plea to the charges during a brief hearing and District Judge Rebecca Crane adjourned the case until Tuesday, May 6, when it will be dealt with at Taunton Crown Court due to the seriousness of the charges.

The defendant was released on unconditional bail.
