EASTER arrived early in Somerset over the weekend thanks to two jam-packed days of fun.

The Rural Living Spring Show, held at Taunton Racecourse, hosted a wide range of crafts and food stalls for visitors as well as charity fundraising events to raise money for St Margaret's Hospice.

It was a busy weekend of fundraising by organisers too as they held a charity 'chicken and egg' race and classic vehicle day.

Louise Walker, event organiser, said: “The show was brilliant. On the Saturday (April 12) it was more shopping but we had 2,000 people there and around 4,500 people at the show on Sunday.

“We had over 100 cars turn up for Sunday, the winners of the best cars was a Sunbeam Talbot Alpine and a bright yellow Cadillac from the 1960s.

“We don't quite know how much we've raised overall yet, but we've raised about £500 just on the classic car day. The overall show should be several thousands.”

The spring show, which was also held last year, was created due to the success of the annual Christmas show and Louise feels confident that their next event will be just as popular.

She said: “We raise money for the children's hospice with our Christmas show and the spring show raises money for St Margaret's.

“The next show is already being sorted and we've sold 50% of our bookings for Christmas.

There was plenty of local produce on offer.
