THE family of a much-loved mother is running a fun day in her memory.

Ruth Osborne, 50, died from motor neurone disease four years ago but the family was spurred on by her death to raise awareness of the illness.

Classics at the Mill Fun Day, at Haselbury Mill, near Crewkerne, is in its fourth year and has raised thousands of pounds.

Ruth’s daughter, Hannah Osborne, 29, said: “We are trying to get all the families to come along, spend the day here and raise money.

“Crewkerne is a small place, so a lot of people remembered Mum and we decided to run these events because nobody had heard of this disease until Mum was diagnosed.

“We realised how it is not recognised or funded very well and we are trying to get more money to the charity. It would be nice to think that the money would help them find a cure.”

The fun day tomorrow (April 13) runs from 10am to 4pm and entry is free.

It includes a bouncy castle and children’s games, an orchestra from Maiden Beech Primary School performing during the day and a raffle, with items given by shops and companies in the Crewkerne area.

Hannah added: “We are so grateful to the owner of Haselbury Mill for letting us use her venue and for the kindness of these people because otherwise the show would not be possible.”

The day is mainly run by Ruth’s close family and friends but Hannah said anyone else who would like to lend a hand should visit ww.classics@the mill.co.uk
