A FREE skate and BMX event is being held at the new Bridgwater Skatepark.

The YMCA and Sedgemoor District Council are holding a ‘skate-jam’ for Saturday (April 12) from noon to 4pm, run by Crucial BMX.

The event is open to all BMXer’s, skaters and scooter users as well as spectators.

The skatepark, at Friarn Avenue, near the YMCA, was officially opened on December 14, and John Ennals, chair of Bridgwater YMCA, said: “It is great to see so many young people using all elements of the skatepark. The YMCA are so proud to be a part of this exciting Bridgwater project.”

The skatepark includes ramps, a bowl, rails and even a centrepiece carrying the names of the local young people who formed a usergroup and invested a great deal of time and effort into the project.

The £150,000 project was funded by a £20,000 contribution from Bridgwater Town Council and £130,000 from funds held by Sedgemoor District Council while the land was provided by Bridgwater YMCA.
