COMMAND of the response to the flooding crisis has formally been passed from the police to a joint operation led by Somerset County Council.

The joint operation sees the flooding move from an emergency response phase to a new recovery phase, now that there is no longer a known risk to life.

A joint statement issued on behalf of Gold Command said: “There has been a huge effort from emergency services and close working with all agencies and partners to provide the best help and support to the public that we could throughout this crisis.

“We all also publicly acknowledge the tremendous support and dedication shown by a variety of voluntary groups and the many hundreds of volunteers who have stepped forward during this time.”

I am glad to read that the Immediate threat to Life and or injury is now passed, in relation to the Recent Flooding, I do hope the Police will continue with their Vigilant Patrolling of Moorland and Huntworth, villages around the Flooded region.
There is still much work to do in the repairs, of those flooded Properties, with all tradesmen, jobbing builders now on the ground, it is open season for the Unwanted Attention of Thieves and No Gooders, stealing Heating oil, etc.
I hope that Somerset County Council, will continue working with all individual Agencies, including the Great work that Sedgemoor District Council Staff have given to those that need advice and assistance.......
The one Cautious Note I have is that SCC, will Control, use their Strength, to commander the Greater Amount of The Central Governments Relief Funds, spending it on what benefits Taunton in Preference to the Needs of more Local inhabitants. !!!
