A MAN from Taunton has been arrested following a horrific crash which killed a 43-year-old in Dorset.

Dorset Police quizzed the driver of a Subaru after it collided with a Skoda on the A31 between Winterbourne Zelston and Bere Regis shortly before 6pm yesterday (March 24).

Officers confirmed a 28-year-old from Taunton was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and bailed pending further enquiries.

The casualty, from Wimborne, was travelling in Skoda with his wife, 37, and seven-year-old daughter, who were both taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The motorist from Taunton was also taken to hospital with slight injuries before being arrested.

A police spokesman said: "A blue Subaru car, driven by a man from Somerset, overtook an articulated HGV travelling west and during the course of overtaking collided with a Skoda travelling east.

"The Skoda was hit and pushed off the road and the driver, a 43-year-old man from the Wimborne area, died as a result.

"The Subaru then collided with another car travelling east, a Mercedes driven by a 66-year-old man from Poole, and then spun off the road into the roadside ditch."

The Mercedes driver was uninjured.
