A MOTHER and daughter from Bridgwater are preparing to run 5k across Weston’s beach to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

Lucy and her daughter Georgie Coombes, from Wordsworth Avenue, are taking on the Race for Life challenge on May 11.

Lucy, 53, said: “We did Race for Life two years ago after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was undergoing treatment at the time so it was a real challenge for me.

“Before I was diagnosed I did it in 2009 for relatives. I’m OK now, but having been through it, it does make it that much more emotional and gives you a different perspective.”

Lucy had a breast removed and underwent several months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy to treat the cancer. The Mercury reported in 2012 when she did the race while still recovering.

Georgie, 16, added: “We’re hoping to raise £700 this time and mum wants to beat her previous time of 54 minutes.”
