A NEW two-day festival for music fans is being held at The Oaktree Park, in Highbridge.

On May 24 and 25, roughly 23 local bands and artists will be performing at The Oaktree for the Summerset Live Festival.

Jordan Jones, festival organiser, said: “The idea of Summerset Live was born last year when a few of us here at The Oaktree were discussing how much musical talent we have in the South-West and, specifically, in Somerset and surrounding area.

“We thought it would be a good idea to see if we could pull together a few of the bands to perform one night but, with so many bands and artists to choose from, we soon decided to do a change our plans somewhat and hold a two-day festival.”

A similar festival called Scrumpstock, a festival to promote Somerset cider, used to be held at The Oaktree on the same date, but this year the organisers of that festival pulled out.

Mr Jones said: “The guy that runs the festival isn’t doing it again so we decided to run it ourselves.

“The only music there was folk music and the only thing sold was rough cider. We have anything, from ska bands, Indie bands and rock bands.”

Local bands such as Snappa, The Fallen Apples and The Mangled Wurzels have already been booked.

All proceeds raised from the festival will be going to charity, with BARB being one of the chosen charities and the second one not yet decided.

Tickets cost £20 for a weekend ticket and £25 for a weekend ticket with camping, which you can buy at summersetlive.com
