MARTIN Jevon has launched his bid to become the next MP for the Chard and Ilminster area.

The Labour candidate is aiming to topple the Yeovil seat, currently held by LibDem MP David Laws.

With just over a year until the next elections, Martin said he has already hit the streets to start his campaigning.

He added: “I want to meet as many people as possible and, in particular, reach out to the parts of South Somerset where Labour hasn’t traditionally been strong. There are Labour supporters everywhere and it is important we reach out to them all.”

Martin works for a National Health charity, having previously worked for Somerset County Council.

In the 2010 General Election result in Taunton Deane, Martin stood for Labour and received 2,967 votes but lost out to LibDem Jeremy Browne.
