FAMOUS fundraiser Logan McKerrow, of Chard, was honoured for his paper Olympic torch idea which has raised awareness of, and coined in a whopping £34,000 for, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

The seven-year-old’s journey began as he saw some Olympic torch bearers selling their torches on eBay, either to make a quick buck or raise money for charity.

Logan was not a torch bearer but he liked the idea of selling a torch so he made a paper one and chose Hearing Dogs for Deaf People as his charity.

His paper torch duly went on eBay and was sold for £21.

Then, the buyer asked for it to be re-sold and Logan’s granddad suggested putting the torch on its own relay – and the rest, as they say, is history.

Since then, the torch has had 60 torch bearers, has travelled more than 20,000 miles and has raised a staggering £34,000 for the charity.

The torch has now been sent to its 61st and final torch bearer, the Queen, who sent a letter to Logan after receiving it.

The fundraising journey has also seen Logan meet famous people like David Beckham and Prime Minister David Cameron.

His nomination said: “He is a caring, thoughtful and loving boy with a huge heart and has inspired others.”
