ALANA Bulpin from Knights Templar tosses a pancake.

Pupils at Old Cleeve Primary School in Washford and Knights Templar in Watchet enjoyed making their own pancakes on Tuesday (March 4).

Not only did they have a go at making and cooking their own but they had fun taking part in pancake races.

Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday is a traditional feast day held by Christians before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday.

Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter.

On Shrove Tuesday, Christians would use eggs and fats before the Lenten fast, making pancakes the ideal thing to cook to use up the foods all in one go before the abstinence beings.
