A DRINK-driver was banned from driving for 20 months this week after being stopped by police who had seen him drinking in a Burnham bar.

Roger Coles, 47, from Penmore Road, Berrow, was stopped by police and breathalysed after driving a vehicle on Wednesday, January 8, on Burnham’s Vicarage Street.

A blood test found him to be almost three times over the legal limit for alcohol, with 200mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

Coles, who appeared at Taunton Magistrates Court on Monday, was also fined.

Chairman of the bench Jenny Hoyle told Coles: “You need to understand that you are now disqualified from driving from this moment, and that if you are tempted to drive, it is potentially a prisonable offence.”

Coles will need to reapply for his driving licence once the 20 month ban is complete.
