TWO men have appeared in court this afternoon charged in connection with an attempted daylight robbery of a central Taunton jewellers.
Gary Kamara, 52, from Witney in Oxfordshire, and 49 year-old Darcy Whiting from Rockley Road in Luton, Bedfordshire, are accused of forcing their way into the Showerings watchmakers and jewellery shop in St James Street, Taunton, with the aim of stealing from the store, at 2.15pm on Saturday (March 1).
Mr Kamara and Mr Whiting were brought into the dock at Taunton Magistrates Court wearing handcuffs at 4.05pm today; both are charged with attempted robbery.
Mr Whiting also faces one count of assaulting a police officer by spitting at him.
The pair were arrested late on Saturday night on the M4 near Swindon, Wiltshire.
Both men will appear at Taunton’s Crown Court for a preliminary hearing at 10am on Monday, March 24, remaining in custody until then.
Neither Mr Whiting nor Mr Kamara has applied for bail.
