BRIDGWATER Amateur Operatic Society has applied for grant funding for its forthcoming RAF band concert.
The group wanted a grant to pay for the hire costs of the town hall, but Bridgwater Town Council said it was unable to give free use to one group because it would be unfair on others who have had to pay.
Councillors also pointed out that there is already a three-scale charging system for the town hall, which means local groups, which fall into the cheapest category, are already being subsidised.
The council suggested that the group applies for a grant for a specific item, such as equipment, rather than hire fees.
