A “SUBSTANTIAL amount” of suspected cannabis has been found at a Bridgwater flat by police.

The substance was collected and bagged by officers after they descended on a bedsit flat in Polden Street on February 25.

Bridgwater police Sgt Gary Young told the Mercury: “Police found a substantial amount of suspected cannabis.

“The substance has been sent off to be analysed, weighed and valued. But the quantity we found was more than we would expect one person to use.”

Police had been alerted to the haul by a member of the public.

Sgt Young added: “The information we gathered which led to this investigation came from a member of the public.

“We really appreciate people coming forward with any information they think may help us with any of our inquiries.

Figures from show there were 56 crimes for the Sydenham area reported last month, only two of which were drugs offences.

Sgt Young added: “While drug use is not a major problem in the area, it can often be linked to other crimes.

“I would urge residents to continue to be our eyes and ears on the street and report information to the police by calling 101.

“Alternatively, ask for PC Marlow or PC Forrest who are the beat managers for the Sydenham area.”

One man has been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a suspected controlled drug and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
