A WELL-USED footbridge in Taunton will remain closed until water levels drop.

The bridge, which connects Goodland Gardens with the Museum of Somerset, has been “structurally damaged” and Taunton Deane Council officers plan to carry out a detailed survey.

The damaged bridge is not the glass bridge which connects the Museum of Somerset with Castle Green.

A council spokesman said: “As soon as conditions allow the damage will be assessed and a repair schedule put in place – in the meantime the bridge has to remain closed.

“The council does appreciate the inconvenience caused by the damage.”

It is thought the initial damage has been caused through wear and tear but the council believes the structural damage – which it needs to assess – could have been caused by water.
