TWO students will take to the skies in a record-breaking skydive attempt in aid of Devon Air Ambulance.

Will Thornton and Kiran Thakur, of Wellington School, will be joining the Tandem Skydive UK team at Dunkeswell in an attempt to beat the record for the number of people continually skydiving in 24 hours.

The current record, set by a German team, is 251; this team will attempt to have 260 people jump in that time.

Will said: “I used to work in the Devon Air Ambulance Shop when I was doing my Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

“I was struck by the difference the actions of a few people can make to the lives of many. I want to do all I can to support this fabulous cause.”

The boys will be jumping in tandem with an instructor during the attempt on June 21.

Kiran added: “We hope to raise a good sum of money and have made a good start through a speech we made at parents’ evening.

“We are really excited by the prospect of this jump, but also rather scared as we have never attempted anything like this before. It will be a personal challenge as well as a fantastic way to raise money for such a worthy cause.”
