A MINI bus will be running to take people to and from the help and assistance centres in Sedgemoor, making it even easier for flood victims to get the help they need.
From February 25 the minibus, run by Somerset County Council, will travel between the Flood Assistance Centre at the YMCA in Bridgwater, the Help Centre at the old school in Burrowbridge run by Somerset County Council and Flooding on the Levels Action Group (FLAG) volunteers, and the Donations centre at the old Somerfield distribution centre at Huntworth Business Park near Junction 24 in Bridgwater.
Cllr David Hall, Cabinet Member responsible for Emergency Planning, said: “Lots of information, help, advice and donations are available to people affected by the floods but it is no good if they can’t get there, which is why this transport is so important. I hope people make good use of the minibus and get the help they need.”
The Flood Assistance Centre at the YMCA in Bridgwater offers a range of services and advice for people affected by the flooding, including advice on insurance matters, benefits, housing issues, financial support, personal wellbeing, social care services, and animal welfare.
At the Help Centre at the old school in Burrowbridge residents can pop in to request help and services (fuel, animal feed etc). Plus the centre has laundry facilities and internet access for people affected by the flooding to use.
The Donations Centre at Junction 24 has been set up for people to donate items and for flood victims to collect supplies they need.
