CHILDREN in Ilminster enjoyed a joint venture to get them reading last week.
Swanmead School and Greenfylde First School came together to host a reading week just before half-term, to encourage pupils to pick up and enjoy books.
Staff ran activities, such as inviting storytellers Anne Harvey and Annie Fisher into both schools, a book swap and organised a reading trail around local shops.
Children on the reading trail had to spot certain books in shop windows and submit their completed entries, with the winning entry to be drawn on the first Monday after half-term when a prize given by the Rotary Club of Ilminster will be awarded.
Other fun activities included performing poetry in the Market Square and dressing up as favourite book characters.
Time was also set aside to read with children from Cheeky Monkeys, Cygnets and Sunny Ile pre-schools, and much more designed to get children excited about reading.
