THE community efforts in Purtington, near Cricket St Thomas, have been praised after storms blocked a road in the village last weekend.
Dianne Forward said: “A large tree brought down by storms completely blocked a small road into Purtington.
“A couple of phone calls got several residents, including a local farmer with a tractor and the right equipment, the owner of the tree with another tractor, a councillor with muscle power, and, of course, a few helpful females together.
“Soon the offending tree was reduced to big/little twigs and very large logs.
“Teamwork can bring otherwise normally busy people together, and I know the owners of the tree were very grateful to all concerned.
“Getting to grips with a problem in a small community shows that helping and looking out for each other is still very important.”
