TO celebrate his ‘coming of age’ 60 year-old Roger Powell will be running the London Marathon this April, on behalf of the Mental Health Foundation.
Roger, who is always busy not only running his own business but also as chairman of Yeovil-based Yarlington Housing Group, has found time to dedicate to the punishing training schedule that this marathon demands.
“My aim is to beat my 2010 time of just over four hours and, in the process, to raise as much money as I can for my chosen charity, the Mental Health Foundation,” he said.
“The charity does great work across the UK to improve the lives of people with mental health problems - a cause close to my heart.”
To help with the fundraising, Roger is holding two banquets in the beautiful 13th Century great hall of the treasurer's House, Martock, in March 2014, which includes a five course meal with wine and entertainment.
For those who can’t come along to the banquet, then there will also be an auction of promises, in which anyone, business or individual, can do something for someone else, for example a night’s baby-sitting, or a spot of gardening.
