Surely it would probably help if a couple of people actually got out of their warm cars and push the car into a nearby safe refuge - ensuring all traffic can flow - or is that too much to ask??

The answer? Probably not the whole answer but a few suggestions...
There are too many roadworks in Taunton at once at the moment, they need to be staggered.
The consideration needs to be given to working on them 24/7, the rent on all the equipment siting there at night not being used could be halved if as much work was done at night as is done during the day,
The bottom end of bridge street should be put back to 2 lanes at the traffic lights, it is a bottleneck caused by bad planning.
Traffic light by the park and ride should be on green for traffic on silk mills unless there is traffic trying to get on or off the park and ride site. At the moment it seems to be red sometimes to deliberately slow traffic down.

Anybody else got other suggestions?

I'm sure the cost of over time for staff working through the night would negate any savings on hire costs of equipment.
