NOMINATIONS are being sought for an exciting new project celebrating Burnham's history and heritage.

As reported, North Sedgemoor Local History Group (NSLHG) was granted £25,200 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for its 'Capture Burnham' project to develop a heritage trail and online archive.

Now the group has set up a website - www.captureburnham.org.uk - and is asking people to register and nominate a topic, place or person for inclusion in the project.

John Strickland, the group's chairman, said: “We had a launch meeting this month and 150 people attended; it was a really good response.

“We're producing a website now in partnership with Somerset Film which has also done the 'Capture Highbridge' website.

“We've received many suggestions for articles to be included for 'Capture Burnham'. The history group will sort through all the suggestions and select 50 items for the project.

“For those unfamiliar with getting online, there will also be training sessions offered in the future to teach people how to use the site.”

As well as nominating online, people can also put their suggestions on the back of Capture Burnham postcards which have been placed all around the town.

The deadline for nominations is March 8 and the next public meeting to discuss the project will be on May 29 at the Princess Theatre.

The group is also developing a history trail, which is set to feature 30 locations.
