SOME people in Axminster may have to wait longer for their post after changes to delivery services.

The Royal Mail has introduced new delivery methods and routes in the town and surrounding areas, meaning some home owners may not receive post at the times they currently do.

Postmen will use new methods and adopt revised delivery routes as the changes are brought in on a phased basis, said Royal Mail.

But bosses anticipate the changes will take some time to ‘bed in’ while staff get used to the new way of working.

A spokesman said: “The way in which we communicate with each other has changed dramatically.

“Unfortunately, fewer letters are now posted every day and Royal Mail needs to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible.

“We also deliver more larger items and so we are investing in new equipment to carry these items to customers even more securely.

“The new equipment also reduces the risk of injury to our postmen and women from carrying heavier mail bags.”

The changes will affect everybody in the EX13 (sectors 5, 7 and 8) postcode areas over the next few weeks.

Royal Mail is writing to every address about the changes, which will also affect businesses and other organisations.
