A SPECIAL event aimed at helping local people to find work will take place in Minehead tomorrow (Wednesday 12).

The afternoon will see employers and training providers come together to raise awareness of opportunities in the area at the interactive Journey to Employment event.

There will be work related taster sessions in catering and hospitality, public services, manufacturing, retail, construction, mechanics, horticulture and much more.

The event will also offer advice and information directly from employers on what they look for when recruiting, advice on how existing skills can transfer into a new career, top tips on writing CVs and how best to prepare for an interview.

Local training providers will be on hand to answer questions in relation to skills development and training, helping to ensure that people become suitably qualified for current and future job roles.

Cllr Karen Mills, economic portfolio holder at West Somerset Council, said: “This event provides the perfect opportunity for our community to find out more about local employment and training opportunities available in the area and to speak to employers about what they look for when recruiting.

"Anyone looking for work or thinking about changing their career should come along.”

Some of the employers attending the event include EDF Energy and The Beach Hotel.

Anyone who is interested in attending should come along with a copy of their CV as some employers will have current vacancies and apprenticeships on offer.

Jennifer Sandy, Employment and Skills Manager at EDF Energy’s Employment Brokerage added: “This is a great opportunity for us to meet some of our future employees for Hinkley Point C but also help guide people into jobs in West Somerset and beyond.”

The event will take place at the Beach Hotel in Minehead from 2pm to 3:30pm on Wednesday February 12.
