SOMERSET FLOODS: Drama group's unique fundraiser
Updated 1:45pm Sunday 9th February 2014 in News
SOMERSET community art group Take Art is pulling together a special perforance of The Rain Has Voices: A Play for Somerset to help raise funds for flood vicitms.
Mark Helyar of Take Art said: "Eight years ago, Take Art commissioned and toured The Rain Has Voices by Shiona Morton. Set in the fictional village of Harrow Bridge on the Somerset Levels at a time of great flooding, we toured the production across the South West.
"Given its immediate relevance, we wanted to re-stage the play, as a rehearsed reading, as soon as possible to raise money for those affected by the extensive floods. We are currently juggling performers' availability and will announce the final cast next week.
"Several of the people and communities directly affected by the floods are our friends, neighbours and colleagues. As many of them are great supporters of our work across rural Somerset, we wanted to do something to show our solidarity. Support for the event is growing fast and we're delighted that Somerset Film have also come on board as a partner."
The event to support the Somerset Emergency Flood Relief Fund is on Sunday 16th February at the Red Brick Building, Glastonbury.
