Yeovil College's 'Festival of Musicals'

First published in News

YEOVIL College’s Performing Arts students are combining the feel of summer festivals with a history of great musicals for their latest production, ‘A Festival of Musicals’.

Featuring hits from shows including ‘Oklahoma’, ‘South Pacific’, ‘Cabaret’, ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’, ‘Mama Mia’, ‘Me and My Girl’ and ‘The Lion King’, the production will offer something for all lovers of musical theatre.

Extracts from recent Yeovil College productions, such as ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ will also be included, giving audiences a chance to relive these fantastic shows.

To enhance the relaxed, festival feel of the event, the audience is being asked to bring cushions to sit on during the show.

There will be no formal seating, but if ticket holders have physical or other disabilities that mean they need a chair or to sit near the front, please contact the box office on 01935-845555.

Performing Arts lecturer Julie Read said: “‘A Festival of Musicals’ will offer both students and audiences the chance to try something different.

"For the students, it will be an excellent opportunity to showcase the full range of their creativity and talent through a variety of songs, dance and performance styles.

"For audiences, it means getting to sample many different shows, some more familiar than others, and see how musical theatre styles have developed over time.

"The show offers an eclectic mix of performances, much like visiting different stages at a festival, so the students have decided to continue this theme with the production staging too.

"We hope that everyone will get into the festival spirit and join us for a celebration of the history of great musicals.”

Yeovil College’s ‘Festival of Musicals’ will be performed at 7.30pm in the Main Hall on Thursday, February 13 and Friday February 14.

Tickets cost £5 (£3 concessions) and available by calling 01935-845555 during normal office hours.
