MEMBERS of the 1st Watchet Sea Scout Troop and Explorer Scout Unit are celebrating after a successful spell at the Sea Scout Swimming Gala last week.

The group completed against 22 Sea Scout teams and 16 Explorer Teams at the HMS Raleigh base in Torpoint, Cornwall.

Jacob Peters won first overall in the Scout Freestyle and Samir Abraham achieved second in the breaststroke.

Bryon Sullivan came fifth in his breast stroke heat, Milo Cashen fourth in his Backstroke heat, Lewis Pearson fourth in his Freestyle heat.

Explorer Sea Scout George Day achieved second place overall in the Freestyle event and Shane Yaw achieved fifth in his heat of the back stroke.

Overall the Scout medley team achieved third place overall, the Explorer team were unable to compete due to an injury with a team member.

Assistant Sea Scout leader Karen Smyth said: “They all swam very well, and were a credit not only to the Scout Group but also the town in the team spirit and sportsmanship.

“To see George Day beaten by such a small margin was upsetting but George took it so well and was a great competitor.”

The group also got to enjoy some land training including tower building, a nautical quiz and rope work.
