Halcon Primary School staff in positive mood after latest Ofsted report
The school was given an overall rating of “requiring improvement”, but Ofsted did single out areas for praise.
The report said children in reception and years one and two have made good progress, and that head teacher Vanessa Coles and staff have taken positive action to strengthen teaching, particularly in years three to six, which has led to most children making good progress.
Ofsted said pupils have good attitudes to learning, behave well and are taught in a safe environment.
Halcon missed out on a ‘good’ rating because Ofsted said pupils’ progress through years three to six was not consistent enough, and attainment in reading, writing and maths over the past two years has been below average.
Mrs Coles said: “I am privileged to work with such a highly dedicated and hardworking team of staff and governors who strive to achieve the very best for the children, parents and local community.
“The whole school team remains committed to striving to secure a good or better judgment from Ofsted.”
Chair of governors, Rev David Fayle said: “This is a dedicated school which has the respect and admiration of all of the children, the staff and the community. It is a caring and nurturing place to be.
“Mrs Coles is a highly professional and skilled head teacher who is devoted to Halcon.”
