SEDGEMOOR District Council has teamed up with other local authorities to clamp down on illegal dumping.

The council says its fly-tipping figures fell 306 to 1,161 between 2011/12 and 2012/13 as part of a county-wide drop of 497 from 5,687 to 5,190, with incidents continuing to fall.

Somerset Waste Partnership managing director Steve Read said: “With all local authorities, the police, and SWP working together and with help from the public, the falling figures for fly-tipping are being driven even further down.

“Ask ‘Em” ads in Somerset’s weekly papers are urging householders and businesses to stay legal and cut off the supply of waste dumped by rogue traders – from builders to manand- van operators – by only doing business with those able to show a waste carrier licence.”
