THE fire service is calling on people not to attempt wading or travelling through flood water.
The Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service warns that flood water can be extremely hazardous as it is impossible to tell how deep it is or how safe the ground beneath is.
It advises switching off electricity, water and gas at the mains if water is about to enter your home, not to walk on riverbanks and to take care when crossing bridges when flood water is high.
If your home floods, have electric circuits checked by an engineer before switching back on.
