VOLUNTEERS are pictured celebrating the completion of a ten-year project to build and repair the four kilometres of dry stone wall surrounding the Hestercombe Estate.

The mammoth project, funded by a Countryside Stewardship grant, was carried out by the estates team and a band of trusty volunteers who have given up hours of their time over a decade.

Head gardener, Claire Reid, said: “This is a fantastic achievement. It is certainly the end of an era and I would like to thank all the volunteers for their hard work and enthusiasm over such a long time.”

She added: “The Hestercombe charity relies enormously on the help of volunteers and we are always on the lookout for more people to get involved either in the gardens, in the office and soon in our exciting new art project in the house.  No experience is necessary - just a willingness to get stuck in!’
