THE sore issue of cuts to Sedgemoor’s children’s centres will be debated in Parliament, thanks to Burnham’s MP.

Tessa Munt MP has asked the speaker for a debate in the House of Commons Chamber. It will take place on Monday, February 3.

She said: “I’m extremely concerned about the future of children’s centres in Somerset, particularly those under threat in my area.”

As reported in November, Somerset County Council revealed Burnham’s Octopus Children’s Centre is set to be one of 18 across the region to be axed in an effort to save cash.

Although Highbridge CC would continue to operate normally, five centres, including Octopus CC, would be ‘de-designated’, meaning they will no longer be classed as Children’s Centres.
