AN important meeting between North Petherton Town Council and Network Rail has been postponed due to flooding.

The town council was urging people to attend a meeting tonight (January 27) to consult with residents about the 22-week closure of the Huntworth Railway bridge.

But Network Rail confirmed today the meeting, set to take place at Moorland Village Hall, has been postponed by the council.

A spokesman said: “Unfortunately, the event has been cancelled owing to the floods. We are currently reviewing the next appropriate time and will inform the residents as soon as that has been set up.”

The closure of the road bridge will mean residents of Moorland and Fordgate will be faced with a massive round trip in order to get to North Petherton or Bridgwater.

Shame, it would have been the idea day.

After all, when better to show how ludicrous taking 2 of the 3 possible routes out of the village is?

The only remaining route? Well that would be the A361 Burrowbridge/East Lyng road and for 5 months we are expected to have to make a 36 mile or so round trip if we need to get into Bridgwater, That is presuming of course the road isn't several feet under water again.

Totally insane.

As if they could not have re-arranged the venue for the meeting to the Agricultural Centre J 24, or North Petherton Village Hall, or even the Pub...
This meeting is a very important one, because if work is not done soon to replace the Bridge, it could become dangerous, they have been delaying this work for over two years now.
Also they need to address is the actual rail track, now being surrounded with 5-6 ft of water. Causing possible damage to the foundations of the track.
