IT’S BEEN described as ‘probably the toughest event on the planet’ but a group of ‘Minehead Mudders’ think they’ve got a shot at completing and beating the Tough Mudder challenge later this year.

Brothers Ray and Brian Hall signed up for the 12-mile obstacle course to raise money for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The courses are designed by the Special Forces to test strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie all over the world.

But don’t be fooled ... this isn’t your average assault course; it’s said to be the toughest event on the planet and involves a 12-mile run, electric shocks, ice pools and walking through fire.

“My brother Brian has been helping me get fit over the past few months and we decided we wanted to do something more with it.

“We were running up on the hills recently and I was suffering from jogger’s knee so he had to help me and I said to him if my knee was worse then who would help and when he said the air ambulance I just thought about all the amazing work they do.

“We decided we wanted to do something to help them and Brian came up with this idea,” said Ray, who runs a mobile fish and chip van.

Ray and Brian, who works at Butlin’s, have managed to rope in the help of two friends but they weren’t sure at first.

Ray, 25, added: “We told our friends about it and at first they were umming and ahhing about it but when I said it was to raise money for the air ambulance they were totally up for it.

“My friend Sam Pershouse, who is taking part, was really keen as the air ambulance rescued his dad after he fell off a roof.

“I’ve been training in the gym every day from 7.30am doing circuits and some of the exercises on the website but some of the stuff we’re going to leave until the day.

“We’re so excited. One of the courses has an electric shock so we were daring each other to touch an electric fence the other day.”

The Tough Mudder challenge takes place on April 26 in London.

To sponsor Ray, Brian and friends Sam Pershouse, Ashley Jackson, Paul Jury, Tom Giles and Joe Romero, who are also taking part, text RAYH90 plus the amount you’d like to sponsor to 70070.

You can also sponsor them and track their progress by visiting www.justgiving.com/Ray-Hall1.

Ray added: “We’d really like to raise as much money as we can before the day and any business donating £100 or more will have their logo printed on our shirts.”
