PEOPLE at a Wiveliscombe care home are facing an uncertain future.

Sharpe House, on the West Road, has been put up for sale by its parent company, Jedd International and is to close next month.

It is not yet known exactly when it will close or what will happen to the people there.

The home is registered with Care Quality Commission (CQC) for ten residents and is a long-established home caring for adults with a learning disability.

It has been put on the market with Christie + Co in Exeter and is thought it could re-open and remain as a care home when a buyer is found.

Simon Harvey, director of Christie + Co's South-West healthcare team, said: “Having considered their options carefully, our client has decided to close the home and place it on to the market.

“We believe there is an opportunity to re-establish Sharpe House as a care home due to its retention of CQC registration and well-established position and we anticipate a positive early interest being shown.”

During a routine inspection in February 2013, the CQC said all standards were being met in the six key areas.

A subsequent report said: “It was apparent throughout our visit that people living at the home were relaxed and happy and interacted well with staff.

“There was a calm and pleasant atmosphere and staff supported people with kindness and respect.”

Bryn Wilson, chairman of Wiveliscombe Town Council, said it is a “shame” the home is closing.

He said: “The people there are brilliant and have integrated into the community so we don't want to lose them.

“It's a shame it is closing but that's the nature of business.

“We hope somebody can take it on and keep it as a care home.”

When approached by the County Gazette, Declan Howlett, managing director of Jedd International, declined to comment.

Mr Howlett also refused to give the reasons for its closure or any other information.
