Photo: Car driver crashes into opticians on Wembdon Road
THIS was the scene on Wembdon Road in Bridgwater after a car went through a wall.
A red Peugeot crashed into the wall at 7.55pm last Tuesday, knocking down a post box and the sign to Turners Optometrists.
Bill Issitt, practice manager at Turners, said: “I was at a meeting when it happened. When I got back, the wall was destroyed and the post box was knocked over.”
A spokesperson for the police said: “The driver, a man in his 20s, was injured in the accident. An ambulance was called and the man was taken away complaining of chest pains.”
Mr Issitt added: “There’s an electrical substation just behind the wall. If he had been going any faster and hit that, it would have been very different story.”
“Now people are wondering if they can still post their letters, even though the post box is on the ground.”
This was not the first crash in the same spot.
Mr Issitt said: “We seem to have a regular issue of visitors coming through the wall and not through the entrance.
“The first one was a few years ago. A lorry carrying paper turned over and hit that wall.
“You have young mothers with prams posting letters, people coming to visit us here and there’s the entrance to some flats, too. So it does concern us that we have had two accidents.”
