More Oxbridge joy for Taunton School students
THREE more Taunton School students past and present have received Oxbridge offers, bringing the school's total to nearly 70 - across 30 different subjects - over the past 15 years.
Current student Luciann Blake has been offered a conditional place for human, social and political science at Christ's College, Cambridge, while summer term leavers Jeremy Soper and Anna East, are off to Jesus College, Cambridge and Jesus College, Oxford, respectively.
Jeremy will be studying engineering while Anna is reading geography.
Headmaster, Dr John Newton, said: “This is an incredibly complex and at times opaque process, and I am delighted we have these offers this year.
“I have great faith in all Russell Group universities and the quality of the education they provide, but Oxbridge is special for these with the right skills.
“I therefore congratulate these pupils wholeheartedly, as well as thanking the staff for the extra time they have provided in preparing the large number called for interview each year.”
The school's Oxbridge co-ordinator, Mark Chatterton, added: “Competition for Oxbridge places has never been so intense.
“The number of applications has risen nationally by over 50% in the past ten years, even though many students are now also contemplating studying overseas.
“Luciann, Jeremy and Anna can, therefore, feel delighted with their splendid achievement in winning places at universities which, without fail, annually rank among the very best in the world.”
