TAUNTON Round Table members raised over £22,000 for good causes last year... and plan to raise even more in 2014 as the it celebrates its 75th anniversary.

In the past 12 months the group has provided support for OSNA breast cancer charity (£2,800), Somerset Sight, Taunton Opportunity Group (£3,000 with another £7,500 to come), Think Amy, The Link Centre, Conquest Equestrian Centre (£1,500), Race for Life, the Taunton Her-itage Trust, Taunton Voluntary Action (£500), It’s Childsplay and more.

With the support of the public and businesses, Taunton Round Table also ran its annual carol float, raising £1,800, and delivered Christ-mas food parcels to elderly people and people with special needs.

A flagship evening event with guest speaker Sir Matthew Pinsent, the Olympic gold medal rower, raised £15,500.

Five Round Tablers cycled over 200 miles in four days to complete the Somerset Borders challenge, raising £2,000 to help fund an annual trip to Longleat for disadvantaged families.

Spokesman Steve Gabell said: “We’re currently preparing the events for our fundraising this year, including our annual speaker night, golf day, quizzes and much more.

“2013 was a very enjoyable year, and we’ve supported great causes through either donations or lending a hand to other local charities.

“We thank everyone in and out of Round Table who supports us each year.”
