A HUGE blaze in the early hours of this morning destroyed eight heavy plant vehicles.

Police alerted the fire and rescue service to the incident at Cornishway Industrial Estate, in Galmington, Taunton, shortly before 3am.

On arrival firefighters discovered the fire was larger than expected and more crews were called out.

Initially it was feared that cylinders were involved, but a number of explosions were caused by burning tyres.

The fire was "surrounded" by 3.54am, when it was confirmed that no cylinders were involved.

An inner cordon was set up within the grounds of the premises and police established an outer cordon.

The fire was out by 4.08am.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Investigations are underway and will continue in daylight hours.
