THE League of Friends of Chard Hospital have given the hospital eight specialised mattresses.
The mattresses, worth £16,000 with a ripple effect, will help prevent bed sores in elderly sick patients and reduce the need for nurses to turn patients over regularly.
Friends treasurer Tony Prior said: “The League of Friends exists to provide extras not available through the NHS. We fundraise with collections and an annual draw, but the majority of our donations come from bequests and collections at funerals.
"We’re most grateful to the people who think of us in those ways.”
