ELMWOOD School pupils were awarded with certificates from a police chief constable after completing an e-safety course.

Chief Constable Nick Gargan attended the Bridgwater school for children with complex learning needs to teach them about the importance of online safety.

During their work they looked at issues including security, safe behaviours, on-line bullying, digital footprints, the reliability of websites and copyright.

Chief Constable Gargan said: “I was delighted to have been able to award these certificates. The internet and social media channels are fantastic resources and present many fun and exciting learning and social opportunities.

“However, we need to keep in mind that sadly the world online is the same as the real world and there are risks we need to be aware of and take steps to minimise.

“It sounds like it has been a lot of fun and will hopefully mean they are able to enjoy the internet safely and responsibly both in school and at home.”

Melanie Marshall, Deputy Head Teacher- Elmwood & Penrose Federation, said: “Year 10 &11 pupils were delighted when Chief Constable Gargan came into assembly to present their certificates.

“He reinforced the importance of using technologies safely whilst learning, communicating and having fun.”
